Island Friends was started by two women, Judith Allred and Kim Dueffert, They felt that those interested in volunteering and donating to non-profit and helping projects needed a coordinating point.

This project has now been taken over by Nicole Schneider as these two wonderful women have retired from the island and left a great legacy for younger generations follow; our project supervisor is now Gissela Sevilla.

Recently becoming director of Allred Daycare and Learning center has awoken Nicole’s calling for gathering community funds and volunteers and rescuing government approved educational projects in poorest areas of the island. Together we re-contruct and re-stok them with materials converting them into dignified, healthy learning havens. In the year 2015 we have re-constructed and “adopted” 3 kindergartens and hope to do many more projects of all kinds in the years to come.

We all believe that the way to help on the island is to have a venue that represents island helps and island needs, and puts these two together. This is the primary goal of Island Friends Roatan.

The story begins when Alex and Andrew take a surf trip...
to Bali Indonesia that would inevitably change their lives and the fate of the ocean. Devastated by the amount of plastic in the ocean, they set out to find out why no one was doing anything about it. One afternoon they came across an old fishing village where fishermen were literally pushing their boat through piles of plastic that had washed up on shore. The two surfers realized that the proliferation of plastic threatened both the ocean environment and the fishermen's livelihood. Could the fishermen use their nets, they wondered, to pull the plastic from the ocean? This idea stuck with the 2 surfers and they knew it was time to hit the drawing board. After realizing that the demand for seafood was driving the fishermen to focus on fish instead of plastic, they knew they had to create something that could fund the desired cleanup efforts. This is how the 4ocean Bracelet was born.

Made from recycled materials, every bracelet purchased funds the removal of 1 pound of trash from the ocean and coastlines. In less than 2 years, 4ocean has removed 1,164,157 pounds of trash from the ocean and coastlines.

4ocean currently operates out of multiple countries and employs over 150 people worldwide.

Planning to Visit St. Maarten - St-Martin Soon? Find Out What to Expect!
The Caribbeans's legendary hedonistic vacation destination has temporarily lost some of its glamor when Category 5+ Hurricane Irma slammed into St. Maarten (SXM) on September 6th, 2017. The eye of the storm went right over the island and brought wind-speeds which have never been measured before!

The fact remains that St. Maarten - St-Martin is one of the Caribbean's most popular vacation spots. Many of the island's key attractions have been restored by now. We are ready to receive visitors - by cruiseship or for extended stays. The recovery of the island is in full swing, the spirit of our cosmopolitan community fully alive. If you decide to visit, you will have a great time!

Resorts are reopening their doors after major renovations - offering now improved accommodations.

Our capital town of Philipsburg is back to be a popular stop for cruise ships, famous for the best Caribbean shopping.

All hotels/resorts, shops, activites, restaurants and bars listen on ST-MAARTEN.COM are open for business!
